I started the first week of my internship at Wall2Wall Soccer and it was very intense. Wall2Wall Soccer is mainly considered as a soccer complex but also has a few batting cages used by baseball and softball players. Working at a soccer complex involves many duties to attend to. The Wall2Wall staff has been great with showing me all the different duties that are required while working in the sports facility. Colleen and Jude, my mentors/managers have been very helpful and patient with me being their trainee. Additionally, the other employees help out if the managers get busy. The Wall2Wall staff are great people to work with. I am very grateful that I have been given the opportunity to work at Wall2Wall.
On my first day, Wednesday May 16th, Colleen took another intern and I around the facility and explained how everything operates. That's how I became familiar with the facility. On my second day of work, Colleen gave me additional information regarding operating the computer and how to use the database system. Specifically, when players need their player card, looking up what team they are on, etc. Since Wall2Wall has just gotten a new database system, it was time consuming for the other intern and myself. Since the player ID numbers and the birth certificates didn't transfer over from the old computer system to the new one, we has to check to make sure every player had a player ID and birth certificates were on file. There are still several entries to be completed. The next task involved handing out fliers to surrounding soccer parks. We are trying to get Wall2Wall's name out there so people and players can join a league at the complex. We were really just aiming to recruit youth/children for right now, so when they don't have anything to do and its too hot outside in the summer, they can just come indoors and play. Also, it would help them to be conditioned and stay in shape for the beginning of the fll or spring season. Today was my 3rd day at work and we continued passing out fliers to other soccer parks. It has been a success. For the rest of my shift, Colleen showed me everything to be done when operating the concessions. I was taught how to cook the food, fix drinks and use the cash register. After learning all of that information, Jude took over and showed me how to move the soccer goals for each game and where to put the goals for the 6v6, 8v8, 11v11 games. Wall2Wall has been a great experience so far.
